This Privacy Policy describes how Unity Christian High School and its affiliated entities (“School,” “we,” or “us”) collect, use, and share personal information. It applies to information we collect through our websites (including www.unitychristian.org, www.unitychristianathletics.org, and www.reviveresale.org), in connection with our educational programs and services, and through other interactions with the School. By providing personal information to us or using our websites and services, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

1. Personal Information We Collect

We collect personal information in a variety of contexts depending on your relationship with the School. The categories of individuals from whom we collect information and the types of information we collect are described below.

    A. Website Visitors

When you visit our websites, we may collect information directly from you and automatically through your use of the websites. This includes:

  • Contact information you provide when signing up for mailing lists, newsletters, or email communications, including name, email address, and mailing address.
  • Information submitted through online forms, including contact forms, inquiry forms, and event registration forms.
  • Device and usage information collected automatically, including IP address, browser type and version, device identifiers, pages visited, referring URLs, and the date and time of your visit.
  • Information collected through cookies and similar tracking technologies, including Google Analytics data.

   B. Prospective Students

We collect personal information from prospective students and their families during the admissions process. This information may be collected directly from you or from third-party sources, including:

  • Contact information, including name, address, email address, and telephone number of the student and parent(s) or guardian(s). This information may be received from feeder schools, such as Eastern Ottawa Christian Schools, or other educational institutions.
  • Student applications and related documentation, including academic records, personal statements, and references.
  • Information provided through community outreach forms and events.
  • Religious information, including church affiliation and faith statements, which are integral to our admissions process as a Christian school.

     C. Enrolled Students and Parents

We collect personal information from enrolled students and their parents or guardians to facilitate the educational experience and comply with applicable laws, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (“FERPA”). Because all of our students are minors, we obtain parental consent as required by law. The types of information we collect include:

  • Student and family contact information, including names, addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, and emergency contact information.
  • Demographic information, including date of birth, gender, race/ethnicity, and home address.
  • Academic records, including transcripts, grades, course schedules, class lists, attendance records, standardized test scores (SAT, ACT, PSAT, etc.), and student identification codes.
  • Financial information, including tuition billing, payment records, and financial aid applications containing sensitive financial data. We use FACTS as a tuition assistance processor, which involves the collection of detailed family financial information.
  • Health and medical information, including immunization and vaccination records, medical conditions, allergies, medications, and physical/medical clearance forms for athletic participation.
  • Religious information, including parent/guardian faith statements, church affiliation, and information related to the school’s Christian mission. This may include records of pastoral or spiritual counseling if maintained by the school.
  • Disciplinary records and behavioral incident reports.
  • Accommodations or learning support documentation, including any plans similar to IEPs or 504 plans maintained by the school.
  • Athletic participation records, including team rosters, performance data, and eligibility information.
  • Photos and videos of students taken during school activities, events, and for school publications, subject to any applicable media release consents.

   D. Campus Camp Participants

Our athletic and music departments operate youth camps during the summer through our camps website (www.unitychristianathletics.org). When participants register for camps, we collect personal information including:

  • Participant name, age, date of birth, and grade level.
  • Parent or guardian contact information and emergency contact information.
  • Medical and health information, including allergies, medications, dietary restrictions, and medical conditions relevant to camp participation.
  • Payment information for camp registration fees.

   E. Alumni and Donors

We collect and maintain personal information about alumni and donors to foster ongoing relationships, provide alumni services, and support the School’s mission through fundraising. We may collect this information directly from you or from publicly available sources. The types of information we collect include:

  • Contact information, including name, address, telephone number, and email address.
  • Family information, including spouse name and children’s names.
  • Graduation year and academic history at Unity Christian.
  • Giving history and donation information, including financial information collected in connection with donations.

Alumni Contact Disclosure: We may share alumni contact information and graduation year with other alumni for reunion purposes and alumni networking. If you prefer that your contact information not be shared with other alumni, please contact us using the information provided at the end of this Privacy Policy.

   F. Prospective Faculty, Staff, and Other Employees

We collect personal information from individuals who apply for employment with the School. Applications are collected via online forms. The types of information we collect include:

  • Contact information, including name, address, telephone number, and email address.
  • Resume or curriculum vitae, employment history, and educational credentials.
  • Professional references and letters of recommendation.
  • Statement of faith, doctrinal agreement, and morality code agreement, which are required as part of employment with our Christian school.
  • Supplemental questionnaire responses and information about special qualifications.
  • Background check results, including criminal history, which is standard for individuals working with minors.
  • Driving record information for positions that may involve transporting students.
  • Pre-employment drug screening results, if applicable.

   G. Current Faculty, Staff, and Other Employees

We collect and maintain personal information about current employees throughout the employment relationship. The types of information we collect include:

  • Contact information, such as name, email address, physical address, and telephone number.
  • Payroll and tax information, including W-4 forms, direct deposit information, and Social Security numbers.
  • Benefits enrollment information, including health insurance and retirement plan data.
  • Emergency contact information.
  • Performance evaluations and professional development records.
  • Continuing education and certification records.
  • Ongoing background check or re-screening records.
  • Disciplinary records.

   H. Unity Christian High School Volunteers

We collect personal information from parent and community volunteers, including event chaperones, booster club members, classroom aides, and field trip drivers. The types of information we collect include:

  • Contact information, including name, address, telephone number, and email address.
  • Background check results, as required under Michigan law for individuals working with minors.
  • Signed waivers and liability releases.
  • Training completion records.

   I. Revive Resale Store Customers, Donors, and Volunteers

We collect personal information in connection with our non-profit resale store, Revive Resale Store, including from our customers and volunteers. The types of information we collect include:

  • Volunteer application form information, including name, address, telephone number, and email address.
  • Contact information of our volunteer applicants’ personal references and emergency contact individuals.
  • Contact information of individuals who participate in our raffles and drawings or sign up to receive additional information about the store.
  • Store customers’ payment information, including credit card information.
2. How We Use Personal Information

We use the personal information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To provide educational services, including admissions, enrollment, instruction, academic advising, and issuing academic credentials.
  • To communicate with students, parents, alumni, and other members of our community about school programs, events, and initiatives, including through the sending of promotional messages.
  • To process tuition payments, financial aid applications, and donations.
  • To evaluate tuition assistance eligibility through our third-party processor, FACTS.
  • To solicit donations from alumni and friends of the School, including through newsletters that may contain fund solicitation.
  • To evaluate and process applications for admission, volunteers, and employment.
  • To maintain alumni records and track alumni over time for relationship management.
  • To operate our youth camps and related programs.
  • To communicate about sales and events happening at Revive Resale Store.
  • To facilitate purchase transactions at Revive Resale Store.
  • To support college and scholarship applications, including sharing transcripts, recommendation letters, and test scores with colleges and universities at the student’s or parent’s request.
  • To comply with legal obligations, including mandatory reporting requirements to child protective services or law enforcement.
  • To process insurance claims related to student injuries or other covered events.
  • To protect the health, safety, and security of our students, employees, and facilities.
  • To provide, maintain, improve and secure our websites and online services.
  • To communicate with you about your job application with us and evaluate your potential employment with us.
  • To fulfill any other use that we describe when you provide the information.

Please note that we may anonymize or reasonably deidentify your personal information so that it can no longer be reasonably associated with or used to identify you in some circumstances. We may retain and use such information for any legitimate business purpose without further notice to you or obtaining your consent, unless required by law.

3. How We Share and Disclose Personal Information

We may share your personal information with third parties in the following circumstances:

   A. Service Providers

We share personal information with service providers who perform services on our behalf, including:

  • FACTS, our tuition assistance processor, which handles sensitive financial data related to financial aid applications.
  • Payment processors for tuition, donations, Revive Resale Store purchases, and camp registration fees.
  • Student information system providers.
  • Background check providers for employees and volunteers.
  • IT, cybersecurity, and cloud service providers.
  • Communication platforms, including school communication apps and parent portals.
  • Printing and mailing service providers for school communications.

   B.  Other Educational Institutions and Accreditation Organizations

We may share student information with other educational institutions in the following circumstances:

  • Sharing student records with other schools upon a student’s transfer, as permitted by FERPA.>
  • Sharing transcripts, test scores, and recommendation letters with colleges and universities for admission purposes, at the request of the student or parent.
  • Sharing information with feeder schools such as Eastern Ottawa Christian Schools in connection with student transitions.
  • Sharing information with accreditation bodies, including Christian school accrediting organizations (such as CSI or ACSI) as required for accreditation purposes.

   C. Unity Christian Alumni

We may share alumni contact information and graduation year with other alumni for reunion purposes and alumni networking activities. You may opt out of this sharing by contacting us.

   D. Other Third Parties When Legally Required, for Safety, or with Your Consent

We may disclose personal information when required by law or when we believe disclosure is necessary to:

  • Comply with applicable laws, regulations, court orders, or legal processes.
  • Respond to requests from government or regulatory authorities.
  • Fulfill mandatory reporting obligations, including reports to child protective services or law enforcement regarding suspected abuse or neglect.
  • Protect the health, safety, rights, or property of our students, employees, the School, or others.
  • Assist recruiters and/or employers, including police and military agencies, seeking education records for employment screening purposes, when you provide consent for this disclosure.

Please note that Unity Christian does not sell personal information to third parties or share personal information with third parties for the purposes of targeted advertising.

4. Information Security and Retention.

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical security measures to protect the personal information we retain and to help ensure that it is used in accordance with this Privacy Policy.  

We will retain your personal information for the period necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy unless longer retention is required by law or for auditing purposes. To determine the appropriate retention period for personal information, we consider applicable laws, the volume and nature of the personal information, its purpose, and the potential risk of harm from its unauthorized use or disclosure.

5. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Our websites may use “cookies” and other tracking technologies to gather information about your interactions.  This information may include demographic data, browser type, IP address, pages visited, activities conducted on the page, and the day and time of your visit. We may collect this information via first-party and third-party cookies, and we may track your activity across websites to better personalize your experience. Our websites may use both session Cookies (which expire once you close your web browser) and persistent Cookies (which stay on your computer until you delete them) to make your experience on the website more personal and interactive. We do not currently honor “do not track” signals from a web site browser. Please refer to your computer browser help instructions for more information on cookies and other related technologies and how to manage their use. If you refuse or delete cookies, you will need to repeat the process if you use another computer or change browsers. If you refuse or delete cookies, some of the functionality of our websites could potentially be impaired.

Pages of our websites may also contain small electronic files known as web beacons (also referred to as clear gifs, pixel tags, and single-pixel gifs) that allow us, for example, to count users who have visited those pages.  We may use this information to provide a better website user experience, and tailor our marketing communications. 

6. Opting Out of Marketing Communications

   A. Text Message Opt-Out

If you have previously consented to receive SMS text messages from us regarding donation opportunities or other marketing communications, you may opt out at any time by replying “STOP” to any text message you receive from us. Upon receipt of your opt-out request, we will remove your mobile number from our marketing text message list and send you a confirmation message. Please note that it may take up to ten business days to process your request, during which time you may receive additional messages that were already scheduled for delivery. Opting out of marketing text messages will not affect any transactional or service-related messages we may send you.

   B. Email Opt-Out

You may opt out of receiving marketing emails from us at any time by clicking the “Unsubscribe” link located at the bottom of any marketing email you receive. Alternatively, you may submit your opt-out request by emailing us at [email protected] with “Unsubscribe” in the subject line. We will process your request within ten business days. Please note that even after you opt out of marketing emails, we may continue to send you non-marketing communications, such as donation receipts, account updates, or other transactional messages related to your relationship with us.

Our websites may contain links to other websites. We assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party websites.  You expressly relieve Company from any and all liability arising from your use of any third-party website, or from the content of any third-party website.

   B. Changes to our Privacy Policy

It is our policy to post any changes we make to our Privacy Policy on this page with a notification that the Privacy Policy has been updated on our website home pages. If we make material changes to how we treat the personal information we collect, we will notify you through a prominent notice on our website home pages, in addition to any other means necessary to fulfill our legal requirements. The date the Privacy Policy was last revised is identified at the top of the page.
