Remembering Jack Postma

With sadness in our hearts we inform the Unity community, Jack Postma, Unity Christian High School Principal for 30 years (1982-2012), passed away surrounded by his family on October 26, 2018, at age 71.

Jack leaves a legacy of love and service to Christ Jesus through his unwavering commitment to Christian education and Unity Christian High School. Jack was a leader, friend, encourager, and mentor to each teacher who worked alongside him.

Jack’s passion for Unity Christian and a Christ-infused education formed the foundation for his life of service. Over the course of his career, Jack deeply impacted thousands of students and hundreds of teachers serving in Christian schools throughout the Midwest. Jack’s prayer for each student was they experience God in every aspect of school life and they be prepared to live in faith, with excellence, and for service.

Through his many battles with cancer, Jack always maintained a remarkably positive attitude. After beating cancer for the first time in 2008, Jack adopted a phrase given to him by one of his doctors; “You’ve been given more time.”

Jack’s many doctors and nurses, members of the Unity community, along with family and friends, are witnesses to Jack using the time he was given to be Jesus to everyone he encountered. Whether it was fishing in the Grand River, having breakfast with a friend, attending his grandkids sporting events with his beloved wife Eleanor, or working to advance the mission of Christian education, Jack Postma loved Jesus and loved people.

The Unity Christian community mourns the passing of Jack Postma. We extend our sympathies to Eleanor, to his four children, Bill, Laura, Jill, and Barry, to his eleven grandchildren, and to his seven siblings.

As we mourn, we also celebrate a life lived with passion and purpose. We thank God for the assurance of salvation and the promise of eternal life. We anticipate a time when there will be no more crying or pain; a time when God will make all things new.
